2.1. Bài mẫu 1

I’m going to talk about the time I had no choice but to miss an appointment with my old high school teacher, which is one of the most regretful experiences to me. Even though it took place about five years ago, I still remember it vividly like it was only yesterday. At the time, it was on Tet which is the biggest public holiday in Vietnam and I was given a few weeks off to enjoy it. According to our tradition, we will spend one day visiting our old teachers to ask for their health and exchange wishes to them during this holiday. Normally I will follow that tradition and go with some of my friends to pay a visit to Mr. Huy – my homeroom teacher in grade 12. He really loved me and usually helped me deal with my personal issues back then. He was also the one who gave me some advice on what major I should go for when I got into university. However, that year, I had to prepare for an important exam after Tet so I was quite busy with my studying. That’s why I had to cancel the meeting with him and asked my friends to give my best wishes to him. In fact, I had planned to visit him the next Tet holiday and I was going to buy him a gift to make up for it. Unfortunately that will never happen because a few months after that, he got Covid-19 and passed away. Needless to say, I was extremely shocked when I received the news. No words can describe how awful I felt at that moment. I missed the last chance to see him. This painful experience taught me a valuable lesson that should make time for people I love because I’ll never know which day will be the last day I get to see them.

Từ vựng ghi điểm:

  • Homeroom teacher: Giáo viên chủ nhiệm
  • Deal with something: Giải quyết, xử lý, đối phó
  • Go for something: Chọn lựa, quyết định

  • Pass away: Qua đời

2.2. Bài mẫu 2

It was a story of three years ago when I was attending a management trainee program which was held by a renowned FMCG company. The program was fiercely competitive which attracted a lot of potential candidates of extensive background. I was very nervous, but lucky for me that I could pass all of the nerve-racking rounds to make it to the final round of the program The Individual Interview. I thought that I had a really good preparation for that interview until I figured out that I misread the information. I was supposed to be at the meeting site at 3 but I thought it was 4, so I rushed to the meeting place as soon as I discovered that. But you know bad luck always comes in three. It was chucking it down that afternoon so I was stuck in the traffic and came in an hour late. The receptionist really understood my situation, but she couldn’t let me in because of the rules. So I failed. I just missed my biggest opportunity in my life and I was so sad about that. And that was a very big lesson for me. I learned it the hard way that if you want to plan something important in your life you need to really expect the unexpected.

2.3. Bài mẫu 3

I’d like to share an experience when I completely forgot about an important appointment which taught me a valuable lesson about time management. About six months ago, I had scheduled a meeting with my academic advisor to discuss my university course selection. I made the appointment a week in advance and was really looking forward to it because I needed guidance for the next semester. However, on the day of the meeting I got caught up in a group project that required urgent attention. I was so absorbed in finishing the project that the appointment slipped my mind entirely. It wasn’t until I checked my emails in the evening that I realized I had missed it. I felt quite embarrassed and disappointed in myself, especially since my adviser had set aside time for me. I immediately emailed her to apologize and thankfully she was understanding and allowed me to reschedule. After that, I started using a digital cumulator with automatic reminders to prevent this from happening again. This experience made me realize how crucial it is to balance priorities and stay organized, especially when juggling multiple responsibilities.

Từ vựng ghi điểm:

  • Academic advisor: Cố vấn học tập
  • Looking forward to it: Mong đợi, háo hức
  • Got caught up in: Bị cuốn vào, bị vướng vào
  • Urgent attention: Sự chú ý khẩn cấp, cần được giải quyết gấp
  • Absorbed in: Mải mê, quá tập trung vào
  • How crucial it is: Nó quan trọng/thiết yếu đến mức nào
  • Juggling multiple responsibilities: Xoay xở/Cân bằng nhiều trách nhiệm cùng lúc

Bài mẫu Describe a time when you missed an important appointment for something - Speaking Part 3

Question 1. Is punctuality important to people?

Yes, I think punctuality is important to most people. Being on time shows respect for others and helps things run smoothly. For example, if you’re late for a meeting it can make everyone else wait and waste their time. I remember once being late to a group project meeting and my friends were annoyed. Since then I’ve tried to be more careful about being on time.

Question 2. Which is more important a work related appointment or an appointment with a friend? Why?

Both are important but I think a work related appointment might be a bit more important, especially if it’s about your job or career. Missing a work meeting can affect your performance or reputation. For example, if you’re late for a job interview it could cost you the opportunity. But of course, meeting friends is important for relationships, so I try not to miss those either.

Question 3. If someone doesn’t really like whom they’re going to meet, they may deliberately miss their appointment. Is that true? Why?

Yes, I think that can happen. If someone isn’t comfortable or doesn’t enjoy spending time with a person they might find excuses to avoid the meeting. For example, I once heard a friend say she forgot an appointment with someone she didn’t get along with. People want to spend time with those they like so it’s natural to avoid uncomfortable situations.

Question 4. How do people who are busy remember things they need to do?

Busy people often use tools like calendars to do lists or phone reminders to remember things. For example, my dad uses a planner to write down important tasks for work and home. Some people also set alarms or ask others to remind them. These methods help them stay organized and make sure they don’t forget important things.

Tóm lại, chủ đề describe a time you missed an important appointment for something là dạng câu hỏi quen thuộc trong IELTS Speaking, giúp giám khảo đánh giá khả năng kể chuyện và diễn đạt trải nghiệm cá nhân của bạn. Nếu luyện tập thường xuyên theo đúng cấu trúc và sử dụng từ vựng phù hợp, bạn hoàn toàn có thể ghi điểm tốt với đề bài này trong phòng thi.
