Phrasal verbs là một trong những dạng kiến thức dễ gây “đau đầu” khi học tiếng Anh, đặc biệt với những bạn đang ôn thi IELTS. Trong đó, cụm động từ với “go” là một trong những nhóm xuất hiện rất phổ biến trong cả giao tiếp và bài thi. Theo từ điển Cambridge, “go” được phát âm là /ɡoʊ/ và mang nghĩa cơ bản là “đi” hoặc di chuyển từ nơi này đến nơi khác. Tuy nhiên, khi kết hợp với các giới từ hoặc trạng từ như after, for, down, away…, động từ này sẽ tạo thành nhiều phrasal verbs với những ý nghĩa hoàn toàn khác nhau.
Ví dụ: My alarm clock went off at 6:00 AM, but I was so tired that I turned it off and went back to sleep. (Chuông báo thức của tôi reo lúc 6 giờ sáng, nhưng tôi quá mệt nên đã tắt nó đi và ngủ tiếp.)
