II. Bài mẫu describe an important river lake in your country – part 2
I’m going to talk about The Mekong, which is a major river in Vietnam. If I’m not mistaken, I first learned about it many years ago. At the time, I was still a secondary school student and in a geography class, I got a chance to gain some interesting knowledge about this river. I don’t remember exactly its length but it’s one of the longest rivers, not only in Vietnam but also in Asia. As far as I know, it’s a trans-boundary river and it runs through different countries like China, Thailand and Cambodia, in addition to ours. I’ve never seen it with my own eyes before but via some pictures and videos on the internet, it’s safe to say that it’s a magnificent river. There’re several reasons why the Mekong River matters to us. For one thing, it helps regulate water resources for farming, and this is extremely necessary for a country which depends largely on agricultural activities like Vietnam. For another, it gives us a rich source of seafood so fishermen can make a living out of it to provide for themselves and their families. On top of that, it makes water transport more convenient and plays a key role in hydroelectricity production. Besides, certain places which it flows through have become famous travel destinations and attract a huge number of tourists every year. This brings a substantial amount of money to local people. I believe without this river, our economy would suffer heavily. However, it’s sad news that recently some parts of the river have been polluted due to the inappropriate disposal of plastic waste. Hopefully, our government will come up with effective solutions to tackle this issue in order to make it clean again.

III. Bài mẫu describe an important river lake in your country – part 3

Question 1. Do you think rivers attract tourists?
Yes, definitely. I think rivers are major tourist draws because they offer a unique blend of natural beauty and recreational activities. For instance, many people are captivated by scenic river cruises or water sports like kayaking, which provide a great escape from the stress of city life. Additionally, riversides are often heartbeds of culture and history, featuring vibrant night markets or ancient landmarks that naturally appeal to travelers. Therefore, it’s no surprise that river-based tourism is a thriving industry in many countries.
Question 2. Why do some people like water sports?
In my opinion, the primary reason many people are drawn to water sports is the unique combination of physical challenge and mental relaxation they provide. Engaging in activities like surfing or kayaking allows individuals to experience an adrenaline rush while simultaneously being immersed in nature, which is an effective way to relieve stress from their sedentary lifestyles. Furthermore, unlike indoor gym workouts, water-based activities offer a sense of freedom and unpredictability that keeps participants mentally engaged and physically active. Ultimately, whether it’s for the thrill of the waves or the tranquility of the open water, these sports offer a refreshing escape that traditional sports often cannot match.
Question 3. Do you think that human activity is posing a threat to the oceans of the world?
Without a doubt, human activities are exerting immense pressure on marine ecosystems, leading to several critical threats. The most obvious issue is the alarming rate of plastic pollution and industrial waste being dumped into the sea, which severely endangers marine life and disrupts food chains. Furthermore, overfishing driven by global demand is depleting fish stocks at an unsustainable pace, threatening the biodiversity of our oceans. Additionally, carbon emissions contribute to rising sea temperatures and ocean acidification, which causes widespread coral bleaching. If we don’t implement more stringent regulations on maritime activities and waste management, the long-term health of our oceans will be irreversibly damaged.
Question 4. How can rivers/lakes benefit local people?
In my view, rivers and lakes offer indispensable economic and recreational benefits to local communities. Primarily, they serve as a vital source of livelihood for many, supporting industries like commercial fishing and agriculture through the provision of water for irrigation. Furthermore, these water bodies often become natural hotspots for tourism, creating jobs in hospitality and leisure services. Beyond the economic aspect, they provide a serene environment for residents to unwind and engage in outdoor activities like kayaking or strolling along the banks, which significantly enhances their overall quality of life.
Question 5. Are rivers/lakes useful for transport?
Yes, I believe water bodies play a pivotal role in the transportation sector, particularly for moving heavy goods and bulk commodities. Compared to road or air travel, river transport is often much more cost-effective and fuel-efficient, making it an ideal choice for the logistics industry. Furthermore, in many regions with dense river networks, such as the Mekong Delta, boats and ferries remain an essential mode of transport for local inhabitants to commute and trade daily. Although it might be slower than modern alternatives, its ability to alleviate traffic congestion on land makes it an indispensable part of a country’s infrastructure.
Question 6. What are the most popular water sports in Vietnam?
In Vietnam, swimming is undoubtedly the most prevalent water sport as it’s often integrated into the school curriculum and enjoyed by people of all ages. However, in coastal tourism hubs like Nha Trang or Da Nang, activities such as kayaking and scuba diving have gained massive popularity among adventure-seekers looking to explore vibrant coral reefs. Recently, there has also been a surge in stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), especially on calm rivers and lakes in major cities, as it offers a perfect blend of physical workout and mental relaxation. Overall, the diversity of Vietnam’s coastline and waterways provides an ideal playground for a wide range of aquatic activities.
Question 7. Should all children have swimming lessons at school?
From my perspective, making swimming lessons a mandatory part of the school curriculum is absolutely essential for several reasons. First and foremost, swimming is a critical life-saving skill that significantly reduces the risk of drowning, which is a major concern in many countries with extensive waterways. Moreover, it serves as an excellent full-body workout that promotes physical fitness and helps combat sedentary habits among children from an early age. While some schools might face budget constraints regarding facilities, the long-term benefits in terms of student safety and public health far outweigh the initial costs of implementation.
Question 8. What is the impact of pollution on the world’s oceans?
Pollution exerts a devastating impact on marine ecosystems, primarily through the accumulation of plastic debris and chemical runoff. These pollutants not only contaminate the water quality but also pose a lethal threat to marine biodiversity, as creatures often ingest toxic waste or become entangled in discarded fishing gear. Furthermore, industrial discharge leads to ocean acidification and the destruction of coral reefs, which are vital habitats for countless species. Consequently, this degradation of the marine environment disrupts the global food chain and ultimately jeopardizes the livelihoods of millions of people who depend on the ocean for sustenance.
